Boaters double lines, marina crews stay overnight in preparation for Elsa – Action News Jax

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla .– Boaters at Black Creek Marina are taking no chances before Hurricane Elsa.

They are doubling the lines and securing their ships before the storm.

Jon Hamilton, owner of Black Creek Marina, said: “The biggest concern right now, of course, are high winds and high water. Water is probably our biggest threat. We have a lot of strong wind here.

Hamilton said they took every big storm since Hurricane Irma in 2017 seriously.

“Irma – it was so bad. We had boats crossing the wharf. … Anything that wasn’t nailed was gone. We saw boat docks floating around. It was a mess. So touch wood that won’t happen this time, ”he said.

But just in case that happens, Hamilton and his crew stay overnight to watch the boats.

“Dockmaster Jay will be watching everything, and we’ll reattach everything as they break. You can hear it if it deteriorates and starts to snap, ”Hamilton said.
