Columbia Children’s Theater and Freeway Music will present School of Rock: The Musical! Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Cottingham Theater at Columbia College, 1301 Columbia College Drive. Tickets are available for purchase at

Based on the hit movie, this hilarious musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed aspiring rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There, he transforms a class of straight college students into a rock band that rips guitar, slams bass and blows your mind. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what rocking really means, Dewey falls in love with the school’s beautiful but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within him.

“It’s a series of firsts,” says director Paul Lindley. “This is the first time we’ve performed with a live rock band, the first time the participating musicians have accompanied a musical, and the first time the musical has been performed in South Carolina. It will be truly different. of anything you’ve seen in Colombia before.

One thing is certain, the series does not lack action. Featuring 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and all the original songs from the movie, this high-octane smash delivers face-melting guitar riffs and touching romance in equally impressive doses!

“It was so great to work together,” says Don Russo of Freeway Music. “With CCT’s theatrical expertise and our rock and roll good faith, the project completely exceeded my expectations.”
