YouTube kids phenomenon Blippi will come to the Bank of America Performing Arts Center in Thousand Oaks as a musical on Saturday, April 9, with shows at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. It promises to be a fun experience for the whole family. . Tickets start at $42.
“The show is a great time for families to connect with their little ones in a fun, engaging and energizing way,” said Josh Blackburn, producer of Round Room Live who helped adapt Blippi to the stage in direct. “It’s a fun night to celebrate with your family.”
The show lasts 65 minutes with a 20 minute intermission. The eight-person cast will perform hit songs like “The Excavator Song,” which didn’t feature in the first two iterations of the tour, and interact with the audience through song, dance, and educational lessons.
“Blippi is about learning and playing together and discovering new things,” Blackburn said. “We have monster trucks and we learn about fish under the sea and sign language with ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’, all kinds of interactive pieces that kids are more than happy to engage with. ”
Kids and parents also have the option of purchasing tickets for an after-show meet and greet with Blippi, which includes a photo op with him in the excavator bucket. Merchandise like suspenders and Blippi hats will also be available.
Round Room has produced other live-action adaptations for children like Peppa Pig, baby shark and PJ Masks. Blackburn became involved with Blippi the musical after the gang reached out to Round Room in 2019, looking to bring their screen experience to the big stage.
“It came at the right time for both of us,” Blackburn said. “At Round Room, we like to do things a little more edgy. Blippi is one of the first adapters to take a YouTube brand and turn it into a live show.
This race of Blippi the musical The tour started on February 4 and will continue until June 9, although other dates may be added. The original tour began in 2019 with a six-week run until the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. Production was shut down for a year and a half. Live broadcasts then returned in mid-2021. Blackburn said there was no COVID outbreak on the tour last year. Attendees of the Thousand Oaks show will be required to adhere to applicable health and safety measures, which may include wearing masks and providing proof of vaccination status and/or a negative COVID-19 test prior to the show .
“We were one of the few touring companies that could figure out how to keep people and shows safe on the road,” Blackburn said.
Although Blippi is not expected to return to the stage after his tour ends on June 9, Blackburn said organizers hope to bring the musical back in the future.
“You can expect a fun family night out,” Blackburn said. “Kids will love it. I hope they come out smiling and singing.
