Man attempting to climb border fence dies of injuries

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (KVEO) – A migrant who fell from the international fence on June 16 has died.

Border patrol officers assigned to the Brownsville station were notified of a person falling from the border fence about two and a half miles west of the Gateway International Port of Entry, according to US Customs and Border Protection. in Brownsville.

Border Patrol officers responded and found a man on the ground with a serious leg injury.

Emergency medical services arrived and transported the man to a local hospital. While in hospital, the man tested positive for COVID-19, according to the agency’s press release.

He underwent two separate surgeries to treat injuries from the fall.

The man did not regain consciousness after receiving anesthesia and remained hospitalized in critical condition, the statement said.

On July 16, he was removed from the resuscitation system and pronounced dead by medical staff while under hospital surveillance by CBP, officials said.

The U.S. Bureau of Customs Professional Liability and Border Protection is reviewing the incident, the agency said. The DHS Inspector General’s office has also been notified.
