The group is planning a “State Fair” musical trip

CLINTON — The Mohawk Valley Chapter Retired Public Employees Association will host a trip to see the Broadway musical, “State Fair,” at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn on Friday, August 26.

The cost is $100 per person, with a driver’s tip included. Places must be reserved and payment must be received by July 15. The number of places will be limited.

Attendees will depart from the upper parking lot of the Sangertown Square Mall in New Hartford at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be at 11:45 a.m. at the Springside Inn in Auburn. It will be a seated meal with salad, rolls, vegetables, dessert, coffee, tea or milk and a choice of the following three starters: roast beef sirloin with mushroom sauce; Chicken Francias, breaded chicken breast with lemon eggs, butter and white wine sauce; or baked haddock with lemon butter and a side of lemon and tartar sauce.

Arrival at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse will be at 1:30 p.m. State Fair the Musical will begin at 2 p.m. “State Fair” was Rodger & Hammerstein’s only musical written directly for the screen. Against the colorful backdrop of a heartland America tradition, “State Fair” travels with the Frake family as they leave the farm routine behind for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair.

The musical features well-known Rodgers & Hammerstein songs with an Oscar-winning score.

Attendees will leave the theater at 4 p.m. and return to New Hartford at approximately 6:30 p.m.
