Come see the exciting new production of Annie from YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company. This exuberant musical features nearly 70 local students in grades 7-12 under the direction and choreography of Maggie Sniffen. All performances will be held at the Gallo Center, 1000 I St., downtown Modesto.
Based on the popular Harold Gray comic, Annie has become a global phenomenon and has won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin features some of the greatest musical theater hits ever written, including “Tomorrow.”
With equal measures of courage and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s heart despite having a near-null start to 1930s New York. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York orphanage run by the cruel and embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls from the orphanage, Annie escapes to the wonderful world of New York. From adventure to fun adventure, Annie foils the diabolical machinations of Miss Hannigan…and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She finds a new home and a new family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and an adorable pooch named Sandy.
Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, July 21 and 22 at 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday July 23 and 24 at 2 p.m.
